Aztec dance and cultural programs
The Mexican origins of Day of the Dead are often unknown or mislabeled as a "celebration of Spanish origins". This workshop explores the Native origins of this ancient holiday, and how it evolved into the "Dia de Muertos" celebration we know today.
The workshop begins with an Aztec dance performance explaining its significance and connection with Aztec ceremonial traditions, followed by a hands on installation of an Traditional Ofrenda with the attendees.
During this workshop we explore Aztec traditions: How to set up a “Tlalmanalli” (Aztec ofrenda on the floor), the important elements of an Aztec and a contemporary Day of the Dead Ofrenda, and why the celebration of this holiday is relevant to Mexican culture, from a Native perspective.
